Three tips for choosing flooring

Three tips for choosing flooring

Shopping for new floors is fun and exciting but also a little overwhelming. This is because there are so many options from which to choose.

We'll break it down into three easy steps. First, this will ease some of the confusion.

Always stay focused on your needs and budget

If your family is large and active with kids and pets, you'll want something ultra-durable and low maintenance. Unfortunately, that means the flooring you fell in love with at a small, quiet home may not necessarily work for you.

Tell the experts at the flooring store how and where you plan to use it. Even rooms have different needs and challenges. For instance, the stairway will require more durability than a low-traffic area like the bedroom.

What are your interior design goals?

What kind of atmosphere are you planning to impart? Do you want the room to be cozy or light and airy? Again, consider the space in which you are installing.

This includes room size, lighting, furnishings, accessories, colors, and any functional and aesthetic needs.

We provide a free design consultation at our flooring store. It keeps you focused, on track, and within budget (and don't forget to bring samples, design pages, etc.) As we like to say, we've "gotcha covered!"

Keep it cohesive!

A rustic decor home with a shabby chic room can be disjointed. Nothing needs to be an exact match, but you do have to make sure it coordinates.

Do you see any colors, patterns, or grains used most often? If so, invest in a color wheel (around $20 or $25), see what coordinates, think about balance and then design your room.'
